Week 3 Part A: Aesthetics, Design, and Branding
Atari-Best Electronics and MGBD Parts and Services were two websites that I think have issues and are badly designed.
Atari-Best Electronics' website has many issues. Their website has almost no hierarchy. They don't really use any way to separate important parts from parts that aren't important. Most of the website is boldened, so it makes it hard to separate certain things from other things. The website's navigation is a bit hard to see. There is generally just too much information on a single page which drowns the reader with information. This website in general is not very well designed with users in mind. It seems like all they want to do is have all their information on their website without thinking about if it would be easy for their customers to find information or even use their website. A few things that would help their website is adding some form of navigation that is easy to see, this would help people find exactly what they need without having them look through many things just to find what they are looking for. Having multiple pages instead of just one giant one would be very beneficial. It would help separate information and help people find what they are looking for without having to look through many paragraphs of information. Emphasizing certain things such as titles would help people find important information on their website much easier. It would also bring attention to certain information that could bring in more sales, such as discounts.
MGBD Parts and Services' website makes it hard to see the text on their website. It is written with colors and backgrounds that make it hard to see what they have written. The alignment on their website makes the text on their look very messy. Most things are centered which adds to the messiness. The separation on their website is not very good. They have things that have to do with eachother very far apart. Their website has many pictures without explaining anything, which can be confusing. This website has some aspects of being designed with users in mind such as the navigation, but it mostly does not have the user in mind. If they change the colors and background on the website to simpler colors like black and white, it will make it drastically easier to see the writing. Changing the alignment to the left will make it way easier to read the text and make the website look less messy. Having things that have to do with eachother closer together and having fewer pictures that aren't explained would make the website less messy and would make the website nicer to look at.
Some websites that are well designed are Apple and NPS' websites. They are very well thought out and well made.
The hierarchy on Apple's website is really good. It is very clear what should stand out and what shouldn't. The proximity of items on their website makes it very clear to see what is together and what is separate. The typography makes it very easy to read the text on the page and the colors the text is in doesn't make the text hard to read. Apple's website comes across as well designed because the whole website is easy to use, is very clean looking, and is made in ways that allow people to see what parts of the website are about. Apple's use of design, aesthetics, and branding makes me feel very positive and trusting while using the website and makes me really comfortable using the website.
How NPS uses the proximity of its text to pictures make it very easy to tell what is together and what is separate. The navigation on their website is easy to use and easy to find. The ease of use of their website makes it easy to read and easy to find everything that the reader might need. This website looks well designed for users because it makes it easy to find and read everything. The website also looks very clean and is very easy to read. Their design, aesthetics, and branding make me feel relaxed because I will know I won't be spending a lot of time looking for things since the website makes it clear where everything is.
I have really learned the importance of ease of use and the importance of being able to find things easily. Making things easy to find doesn't only make a website easy to use, but also makes the website appear cleaner and nicer to look at. Not putting too much information on a website makes the information given much more digestible. Making text easy to read makes it a better experience to read text on a website. The proximity of pictures to text also helps make it clear what the picture has to do with the text.
